to remember how it felt
Visiting Dubrovnik in summer, especially in July and August means heat and crowds. Around the 10th of July up until late August it’s the time of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. It is a festival of the arts, music, theater and literature. It was founded in the 50s and since then it has been a stage for some of the world’s biggest orchestras, musicians, actors, writers, artists.
Tomoko and Tsuyoshi came all the way from Japan to Dubrovnik and met me for some pre-wedding photos. It was July, therefore we had to work around the crowds on the streets and the crazy heat. So we decided to meet just before sunrise. That meant getting up at 4 am and starting at 5 am. We met at the entrance to Dubrovnik’s Old Town, the Pile Gate.
The sun was not really up yet, but instead it made such an amazing play of colors on the sky. The tones changed from minute to minute. Starting that early meant the streets very almost empty. An occasional group of party people just going home after a long night, a small delivery truck, cleaning services and an other early bird here and there.
It was early but still not really fresh. The heat didn’t give in for several weeks at the time, but we were lucky that morning as it was very windy. I chose some of my favorite shots from their final gallery. Here they are!
